Conferences & Workshops

CICS has considerable experience in designing, organising, facilitating and conducting conferences, seminars and workshops at the national and international levels, bringing together participants from a variety of backgrounds, countries and organisations on a range of peace, conflict, development and security issues. We have also been instrumental in organising and staging a number of high profile international conferences in the UK and abroad.

For example:

'Diplomacy & Foreign Policy' Short Courses and Seminars

CICS is able to design a series of tailor-made ‘Diplomacy and Foreign Policy’ Short Courses and Seminars for national and international government officials, foreign policy decision-makers, senior diplomatic advisors, thematic and geographic desk officers, private sector corporate representatives, inter-agency coordination units and political staff.

'Conflict & Security' Training Courses

CICS has developed a ‘Conflcit and Security’ training workshop programme for the UK government which looks at key ‘governance’ issues in all regions of the world.

NGO Training Worshop (2005)

In early 2005, CICS staff were involved in the preparation and delivery of a training workshop for a range of NGOs from across the Middle East and North Africa. Held in Beiruit, the workshop was attended by representatives of organisations from Palestine, Syria, Sudan, Lebanon, Jordan, Yemen and elsewhere.

Biting the Bullet Workshop (2004)

In September 2004, CICS organised a workshop in Colombo, Sri Lanka as part of an ongoing project which aims to promote implementation of the UN Programme of Action on small arms. The workshop brought together members of the international Consultative Group Process, and involved the preparation of a series of detailed briefing papers.

International Small Arms Conference

On behalf of the UK government, CICS organised an international conference on integrating small arms and light weapons considerations into development programmes. The conference was conceived to bring together key government and multilateral development agencies, NGOs and academic experts working in these areas, in order to identify successful projects and programmes, identify the key challenges involved in taking this approach, and to seek to commit development agencies to integrating this approach into their development assistance. CICS successfully interpreted the mandate from government to design and organise all aspects of this event, including the publication of a range of post-conference reports and papers.
