Fairtrade Fortnight Archive

Fairtrade Fortnight 2009

This year, Fairtrade Fortnight takes place between 23 February and 8 March. University of Bradford students will show their continued commitment to Fairtrade by organising a series of events designed to promote and raise awareness about Fairtrade issues, all are welcome to attend.

Go Bananas for Fairtrade
Look out for people giving away free Fairtrade bananas in the Atrium and sample Fairtrade drinks alternatives.

If you have a query or suggestion about Fairtrade at the University of Bradford you can contact the Food and Drink Task Group who are working hard to ensure that the University offers a wide range of Fairtrade items.


Fairtrade Fortnight 2008

The activities during Fairtrade Fortnight offer the opportunity to find out more about Fairtrade and to question and discuss both the concept and the trademark.

With the exception of the event on 29th February you do not need to book to attend these events - just turn up!


Wednesday 27 February, 5.30pm - 7:30pm, E59 Richmond Building

How fair is Fairtrade?

What is the difference between Fairtrade and Trade Justice? How do the two interact? What are the economics behind Fairtrade?

Debate with:

Fair trade tea, coffee and cakes to be served at the Treehouse Café after the debate

Coca Cola: Drinking the World Dry

Film documentary by Marc Thomas on the economic, health and environmental havoc caused throughout the world by the Coca Cola company, with discussion chaired by Bradford University ethics and environment officer Jen Fox

Chocolate Day!

Celebrate all things chocolatey with molé, cakes and treats. The chocolate theme will be continued in the evening for Treehouse's regular ACOUSTIC OPEN SPACE (6-10pm), all musicians, poets and performers welcome!

Dreams of an African Child

Drama group and discussion, Fairtrade stalls.

The Ugly Tree and greenhouse Northwest present a one act play written by Robin Graham and Directed by Tony Banks. Discussion after the play will focus on how Fairtrade can make a difference. Peter is sixteen. He has not been living at home for some time. His parents have given him up for dead. But this weekend
Peter returns, looking to be part of the family once again.

Make Fairtrade a habit!

They say it takes 21 days to make an action become a habit . . . . well, we think you can do it in just 14 days.

So here’s a handy Fairtrade Fortnight Calendar, which will help you make Fairtrade your habit. Each date has an activity you should try to do that day and do
it regularly from then on, so by the end of Fortnight, you will have a Fairtrade lifestyle. Easy!

Start the day with a cup of Fairtrade coffee
Tuesday 27th February 2007
Buy some Fairtrade flowers for a loved one – why not make this a weekly habit

Get some exercise – have a kickabout with a Fairtrade football

Snack on Fairtrade flapjacks, biscuits, dried fruit, chocolate or cereal bars
Friday 2nd March 2007
Dress-down Friday at work? Why not put on a Fairtrade certified cotton t-shirt and impress everyone with your clothes with a conscience?

Hold a dinner party for friends, using as many Fairtrade ingredients as possible.
