Welcome to the November 2007 edition of News & Views

There was a real buzz around the University as the new academic year started in September. For the first time students were able to get all their essential information from The Hub - the new one-stop-shop based within the foyer of the Richmond Building which opened earlier this year.

As usual there's plenty of news to digest, including this year's alumni reunion day (see pages 4 and 5) and how one academic is helping to preserve natural beauty in Eastern Europe (page 6).

Far from being stuck inside dark laboratories studying the deceased, our colleagues in Archaeological Sciences have been out and about educating young and old alike in Scarborough about pre-history (page 7).

Paul Edwards from the Bradford Dementia Group discusses the Government's forthcoming dementia strategy on pages 10 and 11, and this edition's Person in Profile is Udy Archibong , Professor of Diversity and the University’s Race Equality Champion (pages 12 to 15).

Devastating reports of hospital cleanliness have hit the headlines recently, so it's fitting that our lead research story this month is Professor Clive Beggs' examination of how humidity affects the spread of ‘superbugs’ such as E.coli using the University’s worldleading aerobiological test chamber.

This edition also celebrates 40 years of chemotherapy and the first incarnations of the Institute of Cancer Therapeutics thanks to a guest article by Will Watson, grandfather of Bradford-based chemotherapy pioneer George Watson.

As the nights draw in, attention turns to the festive season, and we turn our attention to the January edition. See you then.
