The HomeLink Scheme is aimed at international postgraduate or first-year undergraduate students at the School of Management.
The aim of the scheme is to enable and encourage international students to meet local people in their homes and to learn more about British life and culture.
Students gain the chance to develop their communication skills, establish friendships and learn about other people they might not otherwise have met. It is a chance for students to make discoveries about the differences and similarities of custom, culture and family life between themselves and their hosts, and to make their experience of study in Bradford a happy and memorable one.
Local people who participate in the scheme also gain from the experience of meeting international students and learning about the lives of people from countries outside Britain.
Local people who participate in the scheme will offer a group of two or three international students a light meal on three occasions during the early stages of their postgraduate or undergraduate courses. The meetings are likely to be arranged at the weekend, usually on a Sunday, for two or three hours. Students would meet the same hosts on all three occasions to give both parties a chance to get to know each other well.
The School of Management Effective Learning Service would arrange the first meeting between students and hosts, but hosts would then arrange the dates of subsequent meetings with the visiting students.
Students have the responsibility of making their own way to and from the homes of hosts, but it is likely that many hosts will be able to offer transport to and from the University for students, at least for the first meeting.
If you are an international student and you are interested in taking part in this scheme, please complete the registration form . The Effective Learning Aministrator will then contact you to arrange your first visit.
