Entry Requirements

You should have, or shortly expect to attain, a first or upper second class honours degree and preferably an approved higher degree. Alternatively, you may be admitted on the basis of a professional qualification of degree standard obtained by examination.

Your PhD is supervised and examined in English, so you must be able to prove your fluency in the language if it is not your mother tongue. Evidence of fluency includes residence in an Anglophone country for three or more years before starting the programme, or an adequate grade in an approved test of English.

Three such tests are available internationally:

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), in which a score of 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based) or 100 (internet-based) is the minimum requirement.
The International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) test, administered by the British Council, in which an overall score of 6.5 on ALL BANDS is required.
The Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate Certificate of Proficiency in English, Grades A-C.

If you have narrowly failed to meet these standards, you can take a six, ten or 20-week summer course at the University of Bradford Language Unit, to make up the difference. See : Pre-Masters English language course

We would not expect you to prove your fluency in English if you hold a postgraduate or master's degree from the UK or another Anglophone country.
