Announcements

The Vice-Chancellor will declare the Congregation open for the Installation of the Chancellor and for the presentation of awards.

Installation of the Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor will call upon the Registrar to read the provisions of the Charter and Statutes providing for the appointment of a Chancellor.

The Chancellor's marshal will conduct the Chancellor-elect to the platform where he will be received by the Vice-Chancellor.

An address of Welcome will be delivered by the Vice-Chancellor who will respectfully ask the Chancellor to make a declaration to maintain, defend and uphold the privileges and rights of the University.

Conferment of Degrees and Presentation of Diplomas

The Registrar will certify that candidates have qualified for their awards and inform the Chancellor that the Dean of the
School requests leave to present candidates. The Chancellor will call upon the Dean.

The Dean will formally present each candidate, who will go forward to the Chancellor as he or she is called. The Chancellor will present the award by handshake. After all candidates have been presented, the Dean will also present graduands 'in absentia'. The Chancellor will confer these degrees by pronouncing the formula: "By the authority of the University I admit these candidates to degrees of the University in absentia"

The Chancellor will then invite the Honorary Graduate to address the Congregation.

The Chancellor will then address the Congregation. At the conclusion of his address, the Chancellor will declare the ceremony closed.

The Congregation will rise and remain standing until the academic procession, including the graduates and diplomates, has left the Hall

The Procession

The procession will leave the Great Hall in the reverse order of precedence to that of its entry. The graduates and diplomates will join the procession, following the academic staff out of the Hall.
