Press Release 4 April 2002 Dedicated students from schools across Bradford, Dewsbury, Keighley and Ilkley are giving up their Easter holidays to take part in revision classes at the University of Bradford. The 2002 Easter Revision programme is an extension of the Junior University which makes University facilities available each week to young people over the age of 14 who are studying for GCSE and Advanced GCE level examinations in all subjects including English, Maths and Science. The Easter Revision programme, which covers the core subjects of Maths and Science at GCSE level, and Biology, Physics and Maths at AS-level, has been running for four years. Around 150 pupils are taking part in this year's programme, which will help them to be better prepared for exams in May and June. Junior University Co-ordinator, Anwar Ayub, of the School of Lifelong Education & Development, said: "This is an excellent opportunity for a lot of young people who are unable to find space to revise at home. The pupils will work in small groups with tutors away from the school environment. This helps to raise their confidence and can have a big impact on their exams. "It also gives pupils their first contact with the University, some of whom will hopefully apply here at a later stage. We would like the Easter Revision programme to be a very positive experience and if the pupils look favourably on the facilities here we may see them again in the future." Adam Barrett, 16, of Queensbury School, who attended the open day, said: "The Easter Revision programme has made it very easy to learn. The teaching styles are very different from school. Instead of spending ten minutes on something, we can spend four hours learning the concept. "It is a lot more personalised and it is customised to what you need. It is brilliant because it builds up your confidence. Before I was not very good at Maths, but now it is one of my best subjects. I am now getting full marks on all my papers and expect to do a lot better in the exams." Schools involved in the scheme include: Queensbury, Hanson, Tong, Carlton Bolling, Nab Wood, Grange, Bradford Grammar School, Belle Vue Boys and Girls schools, Buttershaw High, Beckfoot, Thornton Grammar, Emmanuelle Community College, Grange, all in Bradford; St John Fishers, in Dewsbury; Holy Family Catholic School and Oak Bank, both in Keighley; and Ilkley Grammar.
