Sports Clubs Success
As the new academic
begins UBU Sports clubs can look back at a number of successes over the
past year.
The Indoor Cricket
team are currently 3rd in the country having reached the final of their
BUSA competition at Lords. They were also awarded with 'Club of the Year'
at the sports colours awards dinner in March.
The Men's' Volleyball
team came 5th in the student cup and 3rd in the BUSA shield competition.
Not to be outdone the Women's volleyball team came ninth in the student
cup competition whilst continuing to play in the top northern conference
level of competition.
Victoria Adams won
Bronze in the BUSA judo competition and was duly rewarded with sportswoman
of the year at the Colours awards dinner. In a further individual competition
Jeff Kapp came 7th in the BUSA 10mile time trial competition.
Swimming and women's
football both performed excellently in new competitions they entered.
Swimming reached the final of the Team Championships whilst women's football
won its BUSA and Yorkshire league tiers.
In the Rugby Union,
the University won best Varsity match in the country last year for its
annual match against Huddersfield, which was presented at Twickenham.
Unfortunately, the success was not repeated this year when they drew Huddersfield.
A highly successful
basketball tournament over the Mayday bank holiday weekend saw 300 basketballers
descend on Bradford for four days. The Bradford old girls team remained
women's champions whilst the University men's team reached the semi final.
Sports and societies
officer, Colin Leeman, said: " I was very pleased with the competitive
successes of so many clubs this year especially with swimming, women's
football and cricket being in competitions they had entered for the first
time. On the participation front, equal success can be seen with a 15
per cent increase in members of sports clubs."
