Students Awarded STAR Scholarships
Two
students from Malaysia have been awarded STAR scholarships enabling them
to study at the University.
The scholarships were
given to Wai Hong Chong and Eddy Cheah. Wai, 20, of Petaling Jaya, in
Malaysia, is now studying Business Studies and Law. She applied for the
scholarship, which is funded by the University, after seeing an advertisement
in the STAR newspaper.
She
said: "I decided to come to Bradford because I heard a lot about the School
of Management, based at the University. I also heard that my degree had
a high reputation after reading it in England's Financial Times. Now I
am here I have discovered the people are really nice too."
Wai is now thinking
of doing a Master's degree in Accounting and Finance and would like to
work in the business sector after completing her education. She said:
"I will hopefully get some experience in England which will help when
I return to Malaysia."
Eddy, 20, is studying
Biomedical Sciences. Although he was primarily chosen because of his good
grades, he also feels his extra-curricular activities helped him to win
the scholarship.
He said: "I was quite
surprised to discover I had been awarded the STAR scholarship. I sent
in the form quite late so I thought they might reject me, but it was great
when I received a call saying they were interested.
"Bradford is a great
place to study. I would like to go on to do a postgraduate here and to
do a medical degree. I would like to stop in Bradford, or I may continue
in Japan. I have not yet decided."
