Staff are able to access up to 12 sessions of Counselling in any academic year at the University of Bradford and Bradford College Counselling Service.
Counselling aims to help you understand and deal with your difficulties more effectively, whether these are practical or emotional. Together with your counsellor you will agree a way of working and the issues you want to address. Your counsellor will then help you to explore what is going on and how to make changes where needed. They will not try to solve your problem for you or give you advice, although they may be able to help you to find out things you need to know, whether related to your work or personal life
Counselling is confidential and private and your counsellor will not discuss you with anyone else unless you want them to. However, it may be that another service such as Occupational Health, Human Resources or the Unions will also be able to help if the difficulty is work or health related. Information on how to contact these services is available below.
If your counsellor was very concerned about your physical safety or the safety of someone you had talked about, they might want to discuss this externally. Otherwise it is up to you if you want anyone to know what you have talked about in counselling.
