Develop Me!

Managed by Learner Support Services

Using Develop Me!

studentYou can use Develop Me! in anyway you wish; however, we have provided some guidelines to help you get the most from it.

Step 1 - Help us to help you!

It is important for us to understand what you want to get out of University and what your experiences are as your learning progresses through the different stages of study. From time to time we conduct surveys for you to tell us your views and help us to improve our services to meet your needs. We hope you will participate in our surveys and give us feedback on Develop Me!

Step 2 - Get to know other students or ask us a question

Making new friends is an important part of University life; some students find this easy, others lack confidence in this area. To help ease this process we have created a space for you to meet and chat online so that you can get to know and support each other as you journey through life at University. By default, anyone can view the content, so if you sign up you might want to adjust your privacy settings;.be careful not to disclose personal information that might put you at risk. Only those who sign up can add comments.

Step 3 - Get to know what facilities and support are available from Learner Support Services

With increasing numbers of graduates to choose from, employers value personal skills just as highly as subject knowledge. Learner Support Services (known as LSS) has a wide range of quality services to aid your development in areas such as taking notes in lectures, organising your time etc, through to writing a CV, preparing for an interview or getting a part-time job. Don't miss out! Check out the LSS web site so that you know where to get the support to help you achieve your best.

Step 4 - Assess your levels of confidence and create an action plan

Understanding what you are confident and not so confident in will help you to succeed at University. Our Skills and Personal Reflective Activity (SaPRA) helps you to assess your levels of confidence in a number of skills area and is your opportunity to really start to think about what you want to achieve at University and how you are going to do it. You will be given guidance on how to access and use SaPRA when you start University. Once you have identified your levels of confidence in different skill areas, you can then start to plan how to develop those skills where you are least confident.

Step 5 - Developing your skills

Our online resources will help you to develop your confidence in the different skills areas; however, you might prefer to attend one of our student workshops or seek 1-2-1 support from an adviser in the Learner Development Unit. Once you have developed your skills you can go back to SaPRA to record your progress; this will help to inform your discussions with your personal tutor.

Step 6 - Don't forget to come and see us!

The staff in the Learner Development Unit are here to support your academic work and well-being throughout your time at University, so do come and see us; we will do all we can to help you to achieve your best.
