I'm looking for men who have or who have had an eating disorder to contribute by writing an account in their own words (the story of their eating disorder).

What am I asking you to contribute?

A written account of your:

  • Early development of problems with or around food;
  • The way this developed over time;
  • Where you are now - your `story', in other words.

You can include in the account anything which you feel is important or relevant in telling your story:

  • Include things in your story because they matter to you, not just because you think I might want to know.
  • The story of your eating disorder can be completely in your own words.
  • I am not making any judgments about your writing ability so I'm not worried about grammar or spelling, for instance.
  • The story can be as long or as short as you like. There is no limit on how few or how many words or pages of text you can send.
  • Don't forget, up until the final cut-off date, you can send your story at any time you want during the coming months. So, take your time.
  • You can decide when and how much you write. You can decide how much detail or depth to include and when, or even if, you send it to me after it's written.

You've written the story of your eating disorder experience, what do you do next?

  • Read the Information for Participants sheet carefully and either save or print a copy for your future reference.
  • Read and complete the Consent Form deleting the response you don't want in the YES/NO column is the easiest way to do this.
  • Now you have three choices:
  1. You can write your story as a word document. Both Word 2003 and Word 2007 (the new version of Word) are fine for me to open once I receive it. If it helps, re-read the information about what I'm looking for in terms of your story. Attach the finished document to the email address shown and send it with the completed consent form.
  2. You can write the story straight onto the email, copying and pasting the consent form information into your mail first. This is useful if you prefer not to use Word or are worried about whether your software is compatible with mine for opening documents.
  3. If you really would prefer, then use the address given at the right hand side to send me your story as a hard copy (handwritten or typed). Print off the consent form,  indicate in pen or highlighter what the response is to the questions and include this in the envelope along with your story.
