About the Event

Amidst fears of a very low turnout in the election, and in the wake of the parliamentary expenses scandal, how might we revitalise confidence in our democratic life?

The world now has more versions of participation to consider than the experiment in Athens over 2,000 years ago. The last two decades has seen many experiments in participation and social movement activism. The three books we are launching present empirical evidence (as well as theoretical argument) on how participation happens.

If you see no place for yourself in our current democratic arrangements - whether you are from representative bodies, the community, our public institutions, workplaces, or the critical peripheries - we welcome you to this debate.

There will be vouchers for a 50% discount on copies of Participation and Democracy in the 21st Century City, edited by Jenny Pearce.

This event is free, but places must be booked in advance. Light refreshments will be available.
