Dos and Don'ts

You have an important role to play in the smooth running of your examinations.  Please read the following DOs and DON'Ts which will help you get through the exams without hassle. 

Before an Examination

DO

Check your individual examination timetable so that you know when and where you need to go

Contact your department ASAP if there is a problem with your timetable

Contact the Disability Service ASAP if there is a problem with your examination adjustments

Check the exams webpages on a regular basis for any late minute changes that may impact on your examinations

Check out the locations of your examinations if you are unfamiliar with the building and/or campus

Remember to bring your UofB ID Card to all examinations

Get to the location at least 15 minutes before the start of the examination

Wear comfortable layered clothing to prepare you for the appropriate weather conditions and fluctating room temparatures

DO NOT

Go to a different location other than the one you have been allocated to

Take unauthorised materials with you to the examination

During an Examination

DO

Obey the University Regulations on the conduct and invigilation of examinations at all times

Obey the instructions given to you by the examination invigilators

Remove your outer coats, hats/caps and/or jackets and leave them in a designated area in the examination room before proceeding to your seat.

Sit at the seat number you have been allocated for the examination

Make sure you fill in the paperwork correctly

Remember to bring your pens, pencils, calculators (if required) etc in a plastic pencil case with you to each examination

Remain quiet and respectful at all times

DO NOT

Take anything to your desk that

Talk, signal or use any means whatever to communicate with or make contact with anyone other than the examination invigilators

Talk, signal or use any means whatever to obtain, directly or indirectly assistance in the examination

Give or try to give, directly or indirectly, assistance to any other student in an examination

Do anything which may disturb other candidates or in any way disrupt the smooth progress of an examination

Leave an examination at any time, except in emergency (for an examination which lasts 90 minutes or less)

Leave an examination during the first hour after the start or during the last 15 minutes before the end, except in emergency (for an examination which lasts 90 minutes or more)

At the end of an Examination

DO

Obey the instructions given to you by the Invigilator(s)

Hand in all your work to the Invigilator and any question paper printed wholly or partly on coloured paper including multiple choice questionnaires

Remain seated and silent until dismissed

DO NOT

Take anything away from the examination which does not belong to you. 

Remove a copy of the question paper from the examination room if it is printed on coloured paper

Make excessive noise as you leave the examination room and location -  there may be other examinations in progress
