Yorkshire Moors and Dales
The surrounding countryside
is magnificent, and so close you can almost walk into it from the city
centre. There is the rugged gritstone wildness of the Pennines, the Yorkshire
Moors and the Derbyshire Peak District; the limestone delights of the
Yorkshire Dales;
and also spa towns such as Ilkley, Harrogate and Knaresborough.
This is countryside made famous;
by the Brontės
of Haworth (eight miles away) and more recently by the television
series 'Last of the Summer Wine' and 'Emmerdale'. If you enjoy walking,
or climbing, or just breathing fresh air, you'll be well catered for around
Bradford.
It is almost within walking
distance of the University campus and within half an hour you can be on
the Yorkshire Moors and Dales.
Wide green open spaces are
a feature of life in Bradford - there are over 40 large parks and woodland
areas, and 100 smaller recreational grounds covering more than 1,500 hectares.

"The Yorkshire Dales are almost
on Bradford's doorstep: beautiful scenery, walking country and natural
phenomena of tarns, falls and limestone pavements. Haworth and Bronte
country are also close: the moors here are rugged- very Wuthering Heights!"
The
Potter Guide to Higher Education 2002/3
"Bradford is so near to the
countryside, peace and tranquillity that you can feel like you're in another
world within just a few minutes."
