Fees and Financial Support
for Postgraduate study
The
University charges an annual fee covering matriculation, registration,
tuition, use of materials and laboratory equipment, supervision, examination
and membership of the Students' Union. If you hold a grant award or studentship,
your fees are normally paid by the awarding body.
The full
amount of your fee is payable in advance at the beginning of the session
unless an application to pay by instalments has been accepted. Details
of the arrangements for this are available from the Course Enquiries Office
(email: course-enquiries@bradford.ac.uk).
Fees are not normally returnable. If you are not self-financed you must
produce documentary evidence, before you register, of a grant award or
other financial sponsorship.
A
discount is offered if you are paying an annual tuition fee and are able
to pay in advance before 1 September of the year you start studying. Full
details of this can be found on the website at www.bradford.ac.uk/admin/student-registry/tuitionfees
The University
reserves the right to revise or add fees at any time without notice. The
University will not allow you to register, or continue in your studies,
nor will it award you a degree, if you have not paid your fees.
University Graduate
School
Candidates
registering for MPhil/PhD who are eligible to complete Graduate School
courses are not charged tuition fees in addition to those for MPhil/PhD
registration.
Research
students will be charged an annual 'writing-up' fee of £100 in the first
year after completion of the required period of registration, and £250
in any subsequent session. However, there is no fee for the submission
of a thesis for the degree of Master or PhD.
For the latest
fee information have a look at the Student
Registry website, phone: 01274 233056 or email: student-registry@bradford.ac.uk
Financial Support
What
Help Is Available to Fund My Studies?
Studying
at postgraduate level can be expensive and the path to securing scholarships,
studentships and sponsorship can be complicated. BUT . . . there is plenty
of help which is available, and the information below should point you
in the right direction.
Above
all, don't be downhearted if the initial cost seems high; if you are optimistic,
organised and begin the process as early as possible, then you have a
good chance of getting some financial assistance. You may also want to
think about approaching your employer for financial help. A postgraduate
qualification is seen by many as an essential part of career development
and many students have all or part of their costs covered by their employer.
Before
you apply for many of the grants available you need to have been accepted
on a course, but there is nothing to stop you gathering information in
the first place. You should also indicate on your application that you
are interested in grants available and we will send you more information.
Studentships
Studentships
at Bradford are principally offered by the Research Councils for:
These
studentships cover your fees, and also provide a maintenance grant.
Taught course studentships last one year, while research studentships
last two or three years.
These
studentships are primarily available only to UK residents. Other residents
who have spent over three years working (but not studying) in the UK
may also be eligible. EU nationals may be eligible for a fees-only award.
Given the demand for these studentships, a good upper second or a first-class
degree is often needed. Relevant practical experience is also an advantage.
Scholarships
Some
departments offer their own, specialised, scholarships and bursaries
such as the Anna Radcliffe bursaries available through our Languages
and European Studies Department. For more information on these, please
refer to individual departmental
pages.

may be more help available than you think, but please be aware that
