Accommodation
Guaranteed
Accommodation
Applicants
who elect to hold an offer, either conditional or unconditional, as their
FIRM choice will be guaranteed a place in University owned or allocated
accommodation for their first year, subject to completion of the application
procedure. We also guarantee accommodation for undergraduate and postgraduate
overseas students in their first year at University, subject to completion
of the application procedures and acceptance of the University's academic
offer.
Choosing the right accommodation
is one of the most important decisions you have to make when starting
life at University. Much of your time outside of your course commitments
will be spent in your new home. The University offers a range of accommodation
to suit both your budget and your needs, in terms of standards of facilities
required. All the Halls are close to the central activities of the University,
those on Laisteridge Lane are only about 5 minutes' walk away.
"I
lived in Halls for the first year, which was an excellent way to meet
people and I really enjoyed it. I was really nervous but everyone else
was in the same situation, and I'm now sharing a house with seven friends
who I met in Halls. It's also really inexpensive - I've got friends in
Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool who are paying lots more than I am, and
it's no better."
Kimberley Sharatt
- MPharm student
University-owned
or allocated accommodation
University-owned or allocated
accommodation priority in the Halls is given to first-year students, and
those from overseas. There are also a number of rooms available for non-first-year
students. All of our Halls are self-catering.
All bedrooms are connected
to the main University computer network, so those of you with a PC can
access the Internet, reserve a book at the library, or access the extensive
information services available. In most Halls you can also have access
to ResNET which gives you
broadband-like speed, and allows you to make and receive phone calls whilst
using the Internet. Each room also has its own telephone socket, so residents
can have their own phone.
All Halls offer single study-bedrooms,
with kitchens provided which include cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave
and one cupboard for each resident.
A small number of rooms in
Halls are suitable for disabled students. Some adaptations can be made
for the individual needs of disabled students.
There is an Accommodation Manager
on each site in normal working hours, and wardens who live in the Halls
are available to help you settle in and discuss any problems.
"I lived
in Halls during my first year, which was lovely - I'm friends with the
same group of people now and you definitely forge relationships for life."
Rebecca Slater - Archaeological Sciences
