Students' Union

Your Union (YES! It's yours) is run by students - for students. We run over 70 clubs and societies, three nightclubs, four bars, a shop, and three catering outlets - as well as having our own radio station, student magazine and cinema. You can also get specialist help and advice through our support services.

General Information

The Biko Bar.UBU (University of Bradford Union) exists to represent all students and you automatically become a member once you join the University. We are here to ensure the social side of your time as a student is catered for.

We also ensure that all our members can receive support with any academic, financial or personal problems they may have through our Student Advice Centre as well as providing a range of other services.

It is the Students' Union which welcomes and helps you when you first arrive and we also organise Freshers' Week, giving all first years a warm welcome as well as a great chance to meet other first years.

The Union is run by the Executive, made up of elected students - six full-time members known as sabbaticals and eleven non-sabbaticals, made up of current students. We are a democratic body and members decide what our policies will be.

Clubs and Societies

You can join as many of our 70-plus clubs and societies as you like - covering sporting and non-sporting subjects as diverse as the Bradford Role Playing Society, the Green Action Group, and Stop The Fees.

Ramair. You can join the Athletic Association for £50 and this covers you for all your insurance, training and transport throughout the year (with the odd exception i.e. Sub-Aqua). Clubs and societies generally cost between £2 and £10 to join, and are also subsidised by the Union. If there's nothing that takes your fancy, you can always start your own society!

The Athletic Association works in conjunction with the University Physical Recreation Division and you can benefit from the excellent facilities available, allowing you to take up a new sport or improve your existing skills. Sports available range from the more traditional, such as football and rugby, through to the more extreme, for example, sub-aqua or climbing.

Wednesday afternoons are reserved for most sport, with teams playing against other universities, in friendlies or BUSA (British University Sports Association) events.

The University has teams in most of the traditional sports such as football and rugby as well as in events such as scuba diving and archery. Clubs within the AA also organise inter-departmental competitions, although the current champions of the football are staff - in the form of the admin team!

RamAir

Now in its 21st year, RamAir was the first Student Radio Station to broadcast on FM in stereo, the first on a cable network, and the first over the Internet.

We are always on the lookout for people to help. Whether it's presenting a show, producing the daily news, engineering, making jingles or going to gigs to review them. The station broadcasts all around the campus and around Bradford, giving you the chance to hear music, discussion and information relevant to you.

Kinetic

Kinetic is the Union's own well-produced free monthly magazine, with all the latest affecting students in and around campus, from news and reviews, to sports and features.

As with most aspects of Union life, we want you to get involved and all articles are produced by students as well as the design, photography, website production and selling of advertising space - so whatever your talent may be, you can help.
