Fairtrade

The University of Bradford achieved institution-wide Fairtrade status (December 2006) - making more ethically-sound food and drink choices available for its staff and students.

We now have a Fairtrade Policy, make Fairtrade products available for sale in all campus shops and cafes, serve Fairtrade products at meetings, promote Fairtrade to students and staff and have created a Catering Committee to oversee our Fairtrade initiatives.

The University hopes that by achieving Fairtrade status our students and staff will become more aware of the inequalities of trade, and the implications of their buying decisions. Fairtrade empowers people to challenge the ways that trade works: every member of a university can make socially responsible choices.

A variety of Fairtrade products are now available within University outlets including: coffee, teas, chocolates, fruit, orange juices and cereal bars. Find out more...

The new convenience shop in the atrium, opened February 2010, has a dedicated Fairtrade section. The University is promoting use of fairly traded merchandise such as the Fairtrade cotton Ecoversity Student Ambassador hoodies and recently Sodexo have changed their uniforms in the coffee bars and restaurants to fairtrade.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2010 encompassed a variety of interactive events for staff and students including film showings, debates, volunteering opportunities and a Fairtrade themed FND (Friday Night Disco). Details regarding previous Fairtrade Fortnight events can be found via accessing the Archive.
