Research

We are proud to be a research-active institution. We see our excellence in research as critical for our future growth. Our strength is founded in the diversity of our academic staff, specialising in creative and innovative research across Social and Health Sciences, Engineering, Information and Life Sciences, and Management.

We have over 700 researchers and an annual research income of more than £16m. We actively promote interdisciplinary research across the University and through external collaboration with organisations such as the Ministry of Defence, the National Health Trust, and Universities worldwide.

Research is supported and encouraged through established Schools, Research Centres and Institutes, including:

Our research impacts positively on industry through regular collaborations. From small, local and regional companies such as Briton Engineering and Materia-Medica; to large multinationals like, GlaxoSmithKline, Smith & Nephew, Ford, and PZ Cussons (UK) Ltd). These external partnerships ensure our research is relevant to the changing world.

We place emphasis on opportunities to commercialise our research, which has lead to the successful creation of companies like Bradford Particle Design, AGT Sciences, Lena Nanoceuticals Ltd and Pharma Ink Ltd. We strive to take real-world problems and turn them into real-world solutions.
