The construction project is fast nearing completion. The contractor is working from the top of the building downwards, and the upper floors are now in a condition that would allow occupation. Cleaners are now in the building removing protection to carpets, cleaning and polishing.
Final fix for many items is now taking place, which includes smaller white goods such as fridges and microwaves in kitchenettes, and also some of the larger items such as the new x-ray machine in radiography. Equipment for some of the labs and teaching areas have already been moved from the Unity building and are stored within the new Horton A building. The physiotherapy and clinical skill rooms are now complete, including curtains and curtain rails.
The site is currently a hive of activity, with all trades working to put the finishing touches to all elements of their work. The Estates department are busy working with the contractor's engineers to commission the building, to ensure that the services perform as designed.
Formal inspections of the areas to ensure they are ready for handover, will commence week commencing 4th July 2011. Formal acceptance of the completed building is mid-July.
Externally, the hoarding is being dismantled which has revealed the building in all its glory, showing that the reinstatement of the Peace Garden has commenced, and external landscaping is nearing completion.
Off site, the library move from the Unity building into the specially prepared space in the JB Priestley library has been successfully undertaken.
