Monthly Update - March 2011

The new School of Health Studies is now less than 10 weeks from completion, and developments inside and outside are moving at a fast pace. The concrete cladding to the extension is due to be completed by the end of April. The Level 4 extension will shortly be watertight, with timber cladding being installed and the new 'brise soleil' due to be installed early in April.

The  groundwork, paths and steps have commenced, giving an indication of access to the main entrance area. 95% of the glazing in the building has been installed, including the impressive triple height windows on the north elevation, which provide fantastic views over 'The Green' (new Student Accommodation village) and beyond.

Internally, Level Three is almost complete, with commissioning works being planned. A mock office has been made available on campus so staff can visit, have an early view of the offices and also receive advice from the Estates team on the sustainable features of the building, and how these will work once the building has been occupied.

Decorations and final fix to Levels Two and Three are ongoing, with the underfloor heating to the new building being installed and screeded to provide the new floor finish.

Staff and students can expect to see significant changes over the next month, as the project nears completion.
