The new School of Health Studies building represents a £10 million investment in health at Bradford. Our state of the art practice simulation suites provide excellent facilities for students to practice their clinical skills.
This room contains a simulated manikin 'Sim-Man', which can be used to practice clinical skills and procedures.
This practice can be recorded using the SMOTS system and played real time to a live audience in a lecture theatre, who can then interact with the students in the room. This room also has a sound booth.
This room contains a simulated neo natal baby manikin, used to practice various skills and procedures. A mobile SMOTS system can be used in this room, allowing the practice to be recorded and played in real time, as with the Hi-Tech Adult Simulation Room.
Within the Hi-Tech Child Practice Simulation Room there is also a range of other equipment for the care of babies and children, including bathing and feeding.
The Wet Lab is a science laboratory, which is used to practice hygiene procedures such as hand washing, as well as injections, urinalysis also taking blood from mock arms.
The School is equipped with two 6 bedded wards.
The first of these wards contains a range of practice manikins for basic life support and nursing care, as well as a resuscitation trolley, drugs trolley, vital signs machine and manual blood pressure machines. The SMOTS technology can also be used in this room.
The second 6 bedded ward contains patient arm chairs used for moving and handling practice, an overhead hoist, electronic mobile hoist and different slings for lifting patients. The SMOTS technology can also be used in this room.
The movement lab consists of a double height exercise area and a single height exercise and research area both with a state of the art sprung floor. This room is used extensively for the teaching of exercise, neuro-rehabilitation and other practical group activities. The area is extensively equipped with double width rehab plinths, audio visual equipment, loose rehabilitation equipment, wall bars, exercise machines, and Nintendo Wiis and Wii Fits. The area is also used to rehabilitate patients who access the School’s physiotherapy clinic. The research space provides a separate area for undergraduate and postgraduate research activities and contains both gait and movement analysis systems and an isokinetic testing machine.
There are two physiotherapy practice suites which are extensively used for a variety of both undergraduate and postgraduate practical teaching activities. They have been designed to simulate physiotherapy outpatient environments, each contacting 10 curtained cubicles. As such they provide a realistic physiotherapy environment to learn in. Both rooms are equipped with state of the art audio and visual equipment and are fully WiFi enabled with laptop stands to allow students to access online learning materials and videos. They are extensively equipped with anatomical models, physiology testing and simulation equipment and electrotherapy equipment. Both rooms provide the location for the University’s student led physiotherapy clinic providing students with the opportunity to assess and treat real patients as part of the physiotherapy training.
This is a fully functional x-ray room for radiography students to use to practice their skills. It also includes a lecture room with X-ray light viewing screens. A mobile SMOTS system can be used in this room, allowing the practice to be recorded and played in real time.
This is a lecture room with PACS medical monitors, used by radiography students used to view images of X-Rays.
This room contains various models and manikins, illustrating all aspects of pregnancy and child birth. A mobile SMOTS system can be used in this room, allowing the practice to be recorded and played in real time.
This Occupational Therapy room is equipped with a fully functional kitchen, mock bath and shower room, bedroom and seating area. It enables students to practice looking after someone with disabilities in a home setting.
The Occupational Therapy crafts room is equipped for a wide range of arts and crafts activities.
