Adult Nursing
The Adult Nursing pathway will prepare students to work as Adult Nurses in hospital or community settings.
The Adult Nursing pathway consists of complementary practice and theory modules that reflect the overall course requirement for the balance between practice and theory, to give the student a more patient focused branch-specific experience that reflects contemporary organisation and delivery of care.
The second year of the course focuses on the development, analysis and application of specific transferable nursing knowledge and skills in caring for adult patients. The student gains practice experience in acute care and rehabilitative settings and where appropriate across the boundary of primary and secondary care, in order to develop a broad repertoire of adult nursing skills. Particular attention is focused on developing the skills and knowledge necessary to optimise the safety and independence of adult patients, within the context of valuing the patient's and carers' involvement in care.
The final year of the course consists of transferring and adapting adult nursing knowledge, attitudes, values and skills to specific primary health care and acute complex care settings. Emphasis is placed on further development and consolidation of adult nursing competencies in preparaton for registration.
