Student Profile - Terrie Limbert

Advanced Diploma in Adult Nursing

Terrie always had aspirations to become a nurse. A change in her personal circumstances enabled her to start her Advanced Diploma in Adult Nursing in March 2007.  After successfully completing the first 2 years of this course, she transferred onto the BSc (Hons) Nursing degree for her final year, which she is due to finish in March 2010.

"I decided to study nursing at Bradford, as several of my friends had recommended the University. It's in a convenient location, and I'm really impressed with the interaction between staff and students and the friendly atmosphere at the School of Health Studies," said Terrie.

"During my time here, I've had the opportunity to experience a wide range of clinical placements, in health centres, specialist clinics, intermediate care and hospital departments, helping me to focus on areas of interest. My tutors were very supportive in accommodating my request to do one of my placements on a gynaecology ward, as I was thinking of developing my career in midwifery. This was a positive experience, but I've now decided that I would like to work in palliative care. It's difficult at first working shifts, you do get used to it and shifts at different times of day bring with them a range of different experiences," Terrie comments.

Whilst studying at Bradford, Terrie has received extensive support from the University's Disability Service. "I'm profoundly deaf and since enrolling on my course, I've also discovered that I'm dyslexic. The support I've received from the Disability Service has been excellent, they've helped me with arrangements for exams, provided a laptop for me to use and given me day to day support in person and by email. This has made a real difference to my experience at University, and has allowed me to achieve my true potential."
