Sharon always had an interest in Child Nursing, but due to family commitments worked in a variety of other jobs before starting on the Advanced Diploma in Child Nursing course in March 2007. After completing two years of the Advanced Diploma course, Sharon decided to transfer onto the BSc (Hons) programme in her third year of study.
Sharon has thoroughly enjoyed her time at Bradford and is looking forward to qualifying in 2010.
"Everyone on the course has been really friendly and supportive and it's been great meeting so many different people. I hadn't studied for a long time prior to starting this course, but I've been really pleased with the grades which I have achieved," Sharon comments.
"However, the highlight for me has been my placement experiences. I've worked on a variety of different wards across Bradford, Airedale and Leeds NHS Trusts. My placements have allowed me to gain experience in areas as diverse as surgery, general medical, neo-natal and oncology."
It is this variety of experience which has helped Sharon to decide on the area that she wishes to specialise in when she finishes her study. She hopes to go on to work as a children's oncology nurse when she graduates, inspired by the concept of family centred care and the positivity and outlook of the children and families, alongside an interest in cancer treatment.
