Student Profile - Charlie Iffans (Adult Nursing)

Charlie is currently a third year Adult Nursing student.  As part of his studies, in his second year he completed a placement in Bradford Royal Infirmary Accident and Emergency department.

"When I started my course, I knew that I wanted to work as a nurse in A&E, and my placement in this area made me realise I had made the right choice," says Charlie. "The placement was really hands on and I gained so much experience, in areas as diverse as trauma and minor injuries. I also got to spend some time with the paramedic and psychiatric teams, which I really enjoyed."

Charlie found the team within A&E to be very supportive, which has also encouraged him to work in the department in the future.

"My tutor prepared an induction pack specifically for A&E, which was very useful and helped me to keep a record of all my different experiences," he said.

"Working in the A&E department at Bradford Royal Infirmary gave me experience which I don't think I would have experienced elsewhere in the country. The local population is so diverse and this exposed me to a wide range of medical conditions, some genetically related. I've also worked with people from a diverse range of backgrounds, which has been really interesting."
