The Placement Experience at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust runs Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke's Hospital. Trust status was gained in 2004 and there are now over 50,000 members.

The Trust employs around 5,000 staff and provides nearly 1,000 beds across both sites, while 2,000 more patients attend out-patient clinics at the hospitals each week.

Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) is home to one of the busiest A&E departments in the country with more than 100,000 attendances each year, while the maternity unit is also one of the busiest in the UK, delivering more than 5,000 babies each year.

St Luke's Hospital, which is centred around the modern Horton Wing, provides outpatient and rehabilitation services. It has 119 beds and houses the renal dialysis unit.

The ethnic diversity of patients in the Bradford area provides students with the opportunity to experience and to learn about a wide range of health issues.

The Trust also runs ambitious programmes such as the Yorkshire Cochlear Implant Service from the hi-tech Listening For Life Centre, and the Born In Bradford project which is based at the Bradford Institute of Health Research unit based in the grounds of the BRI.
