PAMECUS Positive Action Conference, Brussels 2009

Conference Summary

The conference on "International perspectives on positive action measures" organised by the Centre for Inclusion and Diversity for the European Commission, took place on 19th February 2009, in Brussels.

The objectives of the conference were:

  • To facilitate the exchange of experience and knowledge on positive action measures
  • To explore the concept of positive action and place it in the context of legislation
  • To share findings from PAMECUS study
  • To present examples of measures in use in order to achieve equality in practice

With contributions from a wide range of renowned speakers, this Conference presented findings from a study commissioned by the European Commission to explore the role that positive (affirmative) action can play in remedying discrimination. Participative, challenging and thought provoking - this Conference was designed to facilitate debate and provides opportunity for sharing good practice on positive action.

The conference was attended by representatives of equality bodies, government bodies, chief executives, HR/workforce directors, equality and diversity leads and practitioners, public, private, voluntary and community sector organisations, representatives of civil society and researchers, trade union and other social partners.
