Career as a Radiographer

Diagnostic Radiography (or Medical Imaging as it is increasingly known) is the practice of using various forms of radiation to produce high-quality images which aid in the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of injury and disease. Radiographers will work alongside radiologists and other health professionals in outpatients, casualty departments, ward and operating theatres.

The practice of Diagnostic Radiography is underpinned by a knowledge base of the pure and social sciences, with an emphasis on practical application in the clinical environment. Students will gain experience in a wide range of different imaging techniques and procedures, including X-ray radiography, diagnostic ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear medicine.

Radiographers work mainly within the NHS hospital environment and the BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography provides the academic, theoretical, clinical and personal skills required to become a registered radiographer, eligible to practice in the NHS and private sector.
