Amendments to the thesis
The ; (Section 16) specify the following:
Minor amendments
Normally minor amendments (outcome 1.2 on the Examiners' report form) are those which are undertaken to the satisfaction of the Internal Examiner only. However, on the specific recommendation of the Examiners, the category may include more extensive editorial changes to the thesis which would, likewise, not require re-examination by the External Examiner.
Supervision
Supervisors have a duty of care to the student in providing advice where the Examiners have recommended that amendments be made to the thesis. This will be equally applicable in the case of a student permitted to revise and re-present the thesis and in the case of a student required to make minor amendments.
Revision of the Thesis
Where a student is required to revise and re-present the thesis, the Internal Examiner should forward to the Principal Supervisor a full statement describing those areas in which the thesis was found to be unsatisfactory and the Supervisor will then pass this to the student and give advice as appropriate.
Additional points are:
- The Director of Postgraduate Research must ensure appropriate supervision is available during the revision stage
- Where additional work has to be done (eg processing new data) the School/Department must ensure the student is provided with appropriate facilities
- Student Administration and Support are responsible for submitting revised theses to Examiners - no person is allowed to send an unbound copy of a revised thesis to the Examiners prior to formal re-submission
