For Academic Staff

Linked from this page you will find information which is specific to academic members of staff.  Don't forget, however, to check out Information for New Staff and Information for Staff for anything else you may wish to know.  If you'd like to see any other information here on this page please let us know.

Probation for Academic Staff

New Lecturers are required to become established in Teaching, Research (as appropriate), Scholarship and Administration.  All new lecturers are required to produce a Professional Development Plan or PDP within 3 months of appointment.  There is then a University process to track and record progress against the PDP.  The process map and associated documents are available below:

If you require further information please contact Mandy Wilcock.

Statute 26 - Conditions of Service for Academic Staff, Staff on Grade 10 and Senior Staff

The disciplinary and grievance procedures for academic staff and those non-academic staff on grade 10 are set out in Statute 26, a copy of which was referred to and included in the letter of appointment and the statement of main terms and conditions of employment.  The full Statutes (which were revised in 2006) are linked from the Council section of the Governance web pages.  Statute 26 - Academic Staff - is on page 19 of the Statutes document.

Consultancies

The University allows and encourages academics to engage in consultancy as part of their Knowledge Transfer activities. To support this work, the University offers administrative support to all consultancy.

Consultancy is paid outside work (not including normal academic / professional activities) undertaken under the auspices of the University of Bradford or its wholly owned trading companies.

Leave of Absence - Sabbatical Leave

Academic Staff may request sabbatical leave.  Initial discussions will take place with the line manager; the Leave of Absence Application form is completed and submitted to the Dean for consideration.  Final approval is by the VC/PVC.

Following approval,  the recording and authorisation process is via the Other Absence module of Myview.
