Home and Family

We have a range of policies to support our staff to balance work life with home and family life, many of which provide enhanced benefits over and above our statutory obligations.

Here's a brief overview -  follow the links for more detailed information.

Leave for New Parents

(certain criteria may apply)

Adoption Leave

Staff are entitled to up to one years Adoption Leave and may qualify for University adoption pay.

Maternity Leave

You will qualify for University maternity pay if you have been continuously employed by the University for 12 months before the expected birth of your baby and you intend to return to work at the University, following maternity leave for a minimum of 3 months.  You may also be entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay if you satisfy the necessary criteria.

Paternity Leave

Fathers can benefit from two weeks full pay during Paternity leave.

Parental Leave

Parental leave is the right to take unpaid time off work to look after a child or make arrangements for the child's welfare.

Family Leave

Bereavement Leave

Bereavement leave with pay up to 5 days may be requested by a member of staff to deal with the effects of a death, including making funeral arrangements and attending the funeral.

Dependants Leave

The University may grant time off at short notice to deal with unexpected emergencies involving a dependant.

Special Discretionary Leave

Consideration will be given to requests from members of staff for short periods of paid and/or unpaid leave in circumstances which are not covered by other provisions.

Flexible Working

Flexible Working Policy

A variety of flexible working arrangements are available, including part-time working, annualised hours, job-sharing, staggered or compressed hours, temporary re-arrangements of working pattern or a period of unpaid leave.

Flexitime Scheme

The Flexitime Scheme for staff on Grades 1 to 6 can be operated by arrangement with the manager dependent upon the nature and requirements of the role.

Job Share Policy

The University will normally agree to job share where it is reasonable and practicable to do so and where operational needs will not be adversely affected.
