Study Abroad Photo Competition 2012 Winners Announced

The winners of this year's study abroad photo competition have been announced.

Best overall photo, judges panel:

Seoul of Asia by Michal Wesolowski

'Seoul of Asia' by Michal Wesolowski, civil engineering student

Michal studied at Sogang University in Seoul, Korea on the Worldwide Exchange Programme.

This winning photograph will be featured on the front cover of the next University of Bradford study abroad brochure.

 Maid of the Mist by Simon Tomlinson

'Maid of the Mist' by Simon Tomlinson, economics student

Simon studied at Central Michigan University on the International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP).

1st prize - Aleksandra Theodorakopoulos Drogitis, psychology and crime student

Aleksandra worked at the Institute of Criminology, University of Malaga on the Erasmus programme.

2nd prize - Iulia Udrescu, psychology student

Iulia worked at the University of Helskini on the Erasmus programme.

Caption: Helsinki Cathedral, Finland. Also known as the "Big White Church", it is one of the main landmarks of Helsinki. The 46 long stairs of the towering cathedral are constantly bustling with a mixture of eager tourists and locals.

Caption: Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, Helsinki, Finland. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage List for its military architecture, Suomenlinna attracts thousands of tourists with its unique and charming landscapes. The covered in grass houses can make one think of the small houses of the Hobbits.

Caption: Helsinki, Finland. A glimpse of the city viewed from one of the University buildings, with the Central Railway Station building in the background. The juxtaposition of the urban and the nature reflect the creative and artistic spirit and simple at the same time of Finnish people.

3rd prize- Anna Beitane, international relations and security studies student

Anna worked at the US Embassy in Latvia on the Erasmus programme.

Caption: May 2012, U.S. Embassy. During my second year as a university student, I was searching for an internship, attending interviews, and writing motivation letters. I had almost given up faith, and then I found out about the Erasmus opportunities and an internship at the US Embassy.

Caption: As a result, Erasmus became like a bridge to my dream to work at the Embassy; the dream that I had been thinking about since 2009.

Caption: June 2012, U.S. Embassy, Riga, Latvia. The Erasmus internship provided me with new skills and experiences, including being able to meet famous diplomats such as the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton! This internship has made a great impact on my personal and professional life.
