The library has been designated a European Documentation Centre since 1970 and receives the official publications and working documents of the European Union. It is one of over 40 such collections in the UK and one of more than 500 worldwide. The EDC is located in the Floor 2 Extension, J.B. Priestley Library.
The Collection contains legislative and judicial publications; background pamphlets and studies; reports; information on grants, loans and contracts; research and development information; statistical data; indexes and guides. The printed collections are supplemented by access to a wide range of internet resources, official EU and other databases.
Most EU publications are listed in the Library Catalogue with the location EDC. Items other than the legislation and statistical series may be borrowed.
For details of key internet resources see European information sources on the Web
The collection can be accessed during the J.B. Priestley Library opening hours. It is open to visitors as well as staff and students of the University. However visitors should ensure that they first arrive during Reception opening hours so that they may be issued with a Library pass.
Items from the collection may be photocopied within copyright guidelines. Coin and card operated photocopying facilities are available on Floor 0. There is a card operated photocopying machine for microfiche on Floor 2.
The EDC Librarian is happy to offer guidance on using the collection, normally during office hours of Monday-Friday 9.00-17.00. Visitors who require help are advised to make an appointment in advance to ensure that they are able to make the best use of their visit.
