Special Collections Building Works News and Service Issues

Enhanced security, J.B. Priestley Library: June 2017 until further notice

Please note that enhanced security in operation on campus means that entry to the J.B. Priestley Building is possible only with the use of an access card.  We are working on new standard procedures for our external visitors.  Meanwhile, we will give you some extra guidance when you book your appointment.

Lift replacement, J.B. Priestley Library: 12 June 2017-September 2017

From 12 June 2017 our public passenger lift will be out of action, as it is being replaced by a more modern and reliable unit.  If you are unable to manage stairs, or have any other mobility concerns, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make alternative arrangements for you.  We expect some noise and disruption: more news when we have it.

Utilities work in J.B. Priestley Library: 2016-2017

Estates are improving the Library's heating systems, lighting and windows, resulting in occasional noise disturbance or disruption around the Reading Room.  This work is now coming to an end.

Movement of stock on Floor 02: May 2017-September 2017

We will be re-organising the layout of the open area in Floor 02 in J.B. Priestley Library.  As this is adjacent to Special Collections, expect minor disruption.

Transformation project: tbc

We aim to transform Special Collections, creating high quality storage for our unique archives and purpose-built spaces for our users.  These works will be part of a larger programme which will complete the refurbishment of the J.B. Priestley Library: from outdated 1970s layout and furniture to a space which meets the needs of our students and staff now and into the future.  It is likely that the collections will have to be stored off-site for several months, so users will have to pre-order the items they wish to see.  If we are going ahead, we expect to start moving collections out at least six months ahead of time.  Planning to visit us in the future?  Let us know!  We can then keep in touch with you and prioritise work on the collections you wish to use.  Sign up to our mailing list for project updates.
