University of Bradford >> Library >> Special Collections >> Irish Diaspora material
A book collection on the Irish diaspora is currently being developed at the J.B. Priestley Library to support the work of the University of Bradford's Irish Diaspora Research Unit, which is headed by Patrick O'Sullivan. The Unit is concerned with "the world-wide, scholarly, inter-disciplinary study of the Irish Diaspora, and its social, linguistic, economic, cultural and political causes and consequences". The University's tradition of inter-disciplinary study and the importance of Irish migration in Bradford's history make us a particularly suitable home for this Unit.
Most of the books purchased are added to the main stock in the J.B. Priestley Library; however a few older or rarer items come to Special Collections. These include three rare medical pamphlets by Sir William Porter MacArthur.
