BOOSA is a student run society that organises social events and information evenings, providing some light relief for Optometry students. It is a long-established and very successful society - currently the largest in the whole University.
These events take the format of a presentation followed by pizza and drinks. Those invited to give presentations include optical bodies, spectacle and contact lens companies as well the major UK employers of optometry graduates.
The BOOSA social calendar includes an end of year party and the Christmas party, but the highlight is the annual BOOSA Eyeball. The students have a chance to see their lecturers letting their hair down!
BOOSA negotiates discounts with ophthalmic equipment manufacturers and organises an annual instrument fair, allowing those students who wish to buy their equipment to do so at the best possible price.
A BOOSA trip to the annual student 'Eye Opener' conference run by the Association of Optometrists is also becoming a regular event. Optometry students from across the UK take over Butlins in Skegness for a weekend of careers advice, information and socialising.
