Library and IT Help

Need Library or IT help or advice? Come and see one of our advisers at the Library and IT Help desk in the J. B. Priestley Library. If you can't make it in, email us (lsshelp@bradford.ac.uk), call our 24 hour support line on 01274 233301, or submit our 'Ask us a question' form. The desk is open:

Usernames and Passwords

University username and password

For students and staff.

These allow access to many of the University's web based systems (such as Blackboard, PebblePad and e:Vision) and to the PCs in cluster rooms.
Note:
For the 'Outlook Live' student email service, the username is the Windows Live ID, which is in the format username@student.bradford.ac.uk (e.g. branybo6@student.bradford.ac.uk), and the password is your University password.

Students will receive a username, and create their own password, upon registration with the University.

Staff will receive a username and a 4-digit security code on appointment with the University and will need to use this code to create a password.

Important - change your password frequently for security purposes and NEVER give your password to anyone. You may receive emails asking for confirmation of your username and password. These originate from spammers. The University would never ask you to confirm your password via email. Simply delete such emails.

Athens username and password

For students and staff.

Certain eResources and databases require an Athens account for access.

This account is created at the same time as your computer account at Bradford. Your Athens username and password are emailed to your University email account.

If you are having problems with your current Athens account or have not received your account details, read through the following information before requesting a new password:

Novell username and password

Mainly for staff.

For logging on to staff PCs, allowing access to your Departmental / School network and your personal G drive. Novell is also used for accessing your G and H drives off-campus. Please contact your local IT support person if you need assistance, or contact the ICT Service desk.

Meeting Maker username and password

For staff.

Meeting Maker is the electronic diary system for use by staff. If you work in a supported department and want to enquire about authorisation to use the service, please contact the ICT Service desk. You need to use your computer username and password to access the system.

Change your Meeting Maker password via the Preferences option in the Edit menu in Meeting Maker.

Salvage a deleted file or folder

You are able to retrieve accidentally deleted files and folders.

Antivirus software

All public cluster PCs and staff office PCs on campus are already protected. If you have your own PC, you MUST ensure it is similarly protected. Free antivirus CDROMs are available from the J B Priestley Library Welcome Desk, or you can download the software. Links to the software and updates can be found on the Virus Information web page.

Microsoft Office software

We provide support with the 'how to' aspects of Microsoft Office, such as page numbering and using styles in Word, creating graphs in Excel, animating PowerPoint presentations, and general aspects of the suite: page layout, printing etc.

All the public cluster PCs run Microsoft Office software. If you want to buy this for your own comuputer, Microsoft usually offers educational software at a discounted rate for students.

Workshops and help sheets

If you want to actively learn about using the supported software, see our wide range of:

Problems with your own computer

IT for disabled users

You can find more information about these features on the Microsoft website. In addition, there are a number of useful software packages on our cluster PCs.
