Teaching awards/fellowships

The relationship between University Learning and Teaching Fellowships and the Baroness Lockwood Award for Distinguished Teaching (BLADT)

These are complementary schemes, designed to reward excellence in learning and teaching and to support professional development.

Scheme Application Criteria Outcomes for successful candidates
University Learning and Teaching Fellow
  • CV
  • Letter of support from the relevant Dean or Associate Dean or equivalent
  • Personal statement (3k words)
  • Presentation to selection panel (may be required from shortlisted candidates only)
Potential to make significant contribution to the development of LTA in the University and to achieve NTFS within duration of Fellowship.
  • Appointment for up to 3 years (25% release from existing workload)
  • Negotiated support from TQEG
BLADT
  • Personal CV (up to 3 A4 pages)
  • A personal statement which addresses the current NTFS criteria (up to 5,000 words)
  • Letter of support from the Associate Dean L&T/line manager (one A4 page)
  • Outline project plan (up to 2 A4 pages)
Currently judged to satisfy NTFS criteria and may be elegible for University nomination
  • Award of £5,000 to be spent on agreed project to be completed, normally within one year
  • Automatic salary increment
  • Negotiated support from TQEG

How to submit your application:

Potential applicants have the opportunity to attend a lunchtime seminar to discuss how they can achieve recognition for excellence in their teaching, both in terms of institutional and national award schemes. Invitations to apply are issued during October with applications submitted in mid/late January.

All applicants will be notified of the panel's decision and will subsequently receive feedback on their applications.
