Carrying out Tests

Enlight, in co-operation with the BCS, has developed web-based Automated Test Software.

Tests should be taken on one of the Certified Test Dates (see below).

Candidate ID

By the end of 2009 the Government aims to have set up a web-based Personal Learning Record for all full-time students. This will be accessible from http://www.miap.gov.uk/products/learnerrecord

This record provides details of all qualifications you have gained throughout your life. Learners can give access to their records to employers and other organisations. Each learner will be provided with a Unique Learner Number (ULN) which will stay with them for life, rather like the National Insurance number.

From September 2009, all new ECDL candidates are required to have a ULN. The ECDL Test Centre will provide this for you.

You will also receive an ID from the British Computer Society (BCS). The BCS ID, and not the ULN, is the number you need to use when logging in to tests.

The modules may be taken in any order and over any period of time - even all at once - up to a maximum of 3 years, offering maximum flexibility. When all the modules are successfully completed, the logbook is forwarded to the British Computer Society (BCS) who will award the ECDL certificate.

To afford even greater flexibility, the tests may be undertaken at any ECDL accredited test centre.

Test Regulations

  1. Any special requirements requested at the start of the programme, or requested in writing at least eight weeks before this test, will be made available as far as possible.
  2. Please contact training@bradford.ac.uk as soon as possible to confirm that you will be attending. If you decide that you are not ready to take the test yet, please contact us as soon as possible so that the place can be allocated to somebody else.
  3. Unavoidable late cancellations: please contact training@bradford.ac.uk, or telephone 01274 233320, by 9am of the day of the test. If no cancellation notice is received by this time you will be registered to take the test.
  4. You must bring your University of Bradford Staff / Student ID card as proof of identity.
  5. Your prompt arrival is important. You will have up to15 minutes to get prepared for the test and to log into the test web site. You then have 45 minutes in which to take the test.
  6. You may leave as soon as you have finished the test. Please leave as quietly as possible to avoid disturbing other candidates.
  7. You may not leave the room during the test.
  8. You are not allowed any material aids during the test.
  9. University of Bradford staff who are attending the course during your normal working hours, should ensure that they obtain the approval of your Head of Department.
