National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ)
Verifier Award
The role of an internal verifier (IV) is to support and assess assessor performance. This involves:
- Verifying the assessment process.
- Supporting assessors.
- Giving feedback to the assessment team.
- Being involved in the quality control of the NVQ process.
- Being a link to the External Verifier.
- Attending NVQ workshops, Assessment Team and
IV meetings.
Verifier Framework
The IV award consists of one unit which is divided into four elements:
- Carry out and evaluate internal assessment and quality assurance systems.
- Support assessors.
- Monitor the quality of assessors' performance.
- Meet external quality assurance requirements.
You will need to produce a portfolio of evidence to show that you have the skills and knowledge required
to meet the IVstandards. Your competence will be assessed through observation and the evidence in your portfolio.

Prerequisites
If you would like to become an IV with the ITQ programme
you will need to be an experienced assessor and have sufficient occupational competence. This is defined in the Edexcel
Guidence to Centres - IT Users (Levels 1-3) as either of the following:
- having been an assessor for the standards being assessed;
- been an assessor for a set of standards in a related occupational area, for a minimum of one year within the last two years.
In addition to the above, you must demonstrate updating within the last year involving at least
two of the following:
- Attending Awarding Body verification training courses.
- Studying for learning and development units.
- Study related to job role.
- Collaborative working with awarding bodies.
- Qualifications development work.
- Other appropriate occupational activity as agreed with the external verifier.
