Xiaoyang Cao (Charlie), Masters in Marketing and Management
"My masters with distinction proved to my employer that I have the ability to do well in the organisation. And my ability to learn proved to the company that they could trust me on difficult tasks"
Achieving a masters degree in Marketing and Management from the School of Management in 2006 helped Xiaoyang Cao, known in England as Charlie, aged 25, from Beijing, China, to gain his present high profile role with a UK company.
"I am currently working as Production Control Manager for Bowers and Wilkins, a UK company that makes loudspeakers and hi-fi systems. My job involves overseeing production, planning, purchasing, material control and personnel issues in the factory. My masters with distinction proved to my employer that I have the ability to do well in the organisation. And my ability to learn proved to the company that they could trust me on difficult tasks even though my current knowledge is limited," Charlie commented.
"I did marketing and management for my masters, yet what I am doing at the moment, from a knowledge point of view, has little to do with marketing. However, the organisational skills and ability to learn obtained during my time in Bradford help me a great deal to learn and improve in my current job.
"The University of Bradford School of Management is one of the best business schools in the UK. The ranking for my masters programme was particularly high during my application.
"The course was what I was looking for, combining both general business topics and having a focus on marketing. Plus, it offered a good range of option modules, which provided an interesting mix.
"I especially enjoyed meeting all the people on the course. The teaching staff are very helpful and kind, and fellow students are from such different cultures. I have been able to make some really goods friends - which made the Bradford experience that extra bit special," Charlie added.
