Where you study

Perugia is one of the oldest universities in Italy. It boasts a large number of both Italian and foreign students, having had a history of providing study for foreign nationals. Most teaching at the university takes place in Perugia, however, for this new MBA, teaching takes place in Spoleto, about 40 km from Perugia, in the unique and impressive location of The Rocca Albornaziana of Spoleto.

Spoleto is a historic and beautiful town, on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Cultural festivals and events take place throughout the year, with its Spoleto Festival dei 2Mondi running in its 54th year in 2011, attracting musical, operatic and dance entertainers from across the world to perform in its many events throughout the 2 week period of the Festival. Amongst others, it also has a famous Jazz Festival in July, again attracting musicians from across the globe.

Excellent food and wine is a hallmark of Spoleto and the area, with a fantastic range of top quality restaurants serving the best in Italian cuisine.

The building of this fortress began in 1360 and was completed in 1370. Erected at the highest point of Sant Elia hill, it has a rectangular shape and high walls protected by six sturdy towers and overlooking the town.  A former high security prison, the building now houses the National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto as well as a faculty for the restoration of ancient books and manuscripts. It is also the venue for different kinds of cultural activities such as temporary exhibitions, meetings and concerts.

Beautifully restored in the last decade, incredible frescos line the walls of many of the rooms and corridors, each telling their own stories of courtly love, fishing, hunting, gathering fruit, bathing and games, their painters still unidentified.

The University of Perugia has taken carefully restored offices in this magnificent building which include a raised lecture theatre and number of teaching rooms, as well as a roof top panoramic terrace. There is a limited library stock of relevant reading materials within the teaching area, and students also have free access to the impressive and extensive library in the centre of Spoleto.

It is hard to imagine anywhere as beautiful and unique to study as in the Rocca Albornaziana of Spoleto. For more information about the location or where you study, please contact the MBA team in Perugia.

Accomodation

As a full-time programme, students would normally live within easy daily travelling distance of the Rocca. Accommodation is relatively cheap and plentiful, and offers a host of different styles to suit every need, with prices ranging from as little as £40 per week to about £80 per week at the upper end.  Students may choose to live in the old town, within 5 minutes walk of the Rocca, or in the newer part of the town in the valley. From here, the Rocca may be reached by a unique series of eight escalators which quickly transport people from the valley up through the hillside from where the final stage is by a short lift up to the Rocca itself.  Alternatively, students may choose to live outside the town, in a more rural setting, perhaps taking a shared house with other students. Some landlords may even be prepared to provide transport for the use of students whilst they are there.

Arrangements have also been made to offer students short-term stays in local hotels at reduced rates, if this is needed before permanent accommodation is found.

The important thing to note is that the MBA programme team at Perugia will give students every support they need to find the accommodation they prefer. We have strong links with a large number of landlords in the area as well as housing agencies and the tourist office, and everyone in Spoleto is keen to make sure their visitors are made to feel as welcome and comfortable as possible.
