Research

Window We promote research that passes the "double hurdle" of producing academically excellent work that is also valuable to policymakers and practising business people. We have six main research groups:

Every staff member is affiliated to one of these groups, but in order to cultivate a stimulating interdisciplinary research environment we have not demarcated these groups as departments. Our research is also international. We have co-operative links and exchange agreements with 20 universities in Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Holland, Spain, Sweden and the USA.

CME logo (small) The Centre for Managerial Excellence (CME) embraces innovative research and knowledge transfer that is practice-focused and addresses the key global challenges facing businesses. The CME embraces the worlds of industry and academia to help to build capacity, create and apply research in the areas of innovation, competitiveness and economic growth. The CME aims to:

  • Develop practice-focussed, leading-edge management research that will address key global challenges
  • Undertake research and transfer knowledge generated to businesses and enterprises locally, nationally and internationally

Enterprise and Innovation Lab logo The Enterprise and Innovation Lab is an inter-disciplinary environment where researchers explore entrepreneurship and innovation within the institutional and organizational context in which they take place. Our researchers bring to the Lab a unique combination of expertise (coming from disciplines as diverse as economics, sociology, geography, and fields of study including entrepreneurship, innovation, international business, technology management) and research skills (both quantitative and qualitative). Our work is focused around three research themes:

  • Knowledge and Technology Transfer and Innovation
  • Entrepreneurial Identities in Context
  • Social Enterprise and Innovation

BCIB logo white Research in international business, and much of the business economics and strategy research by members of the group, is supported and developed in the Bradford Centre in International Business. The centre provides a structure for research in international business and is developing research networks in and outside the UK. The centre also provides a seminar programme, team research, research training and mentoring, facilitation for applications for external funding, and databases of research material.

Research is at the centre of all Bradford teaching and learning. In the latest research assessment exercise (RAE 2008), almost half (45%) of the Management School's research activity was assessed as being world leading or internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour, and 90% of our research assessed to be of international standing.

Regular research seminars by staff, research students and visitors help to foster a vibrant research culture.

Our range of activities, the depth of our research, and our close involvement with industry, commerce and the public sector provide an excellent and highly supportive research environment.
