Social media

Social media is now a crucial method of modern communication and an integral part of most marketing strategies.

The Marketing and Communications Department operates a range of corporate social media platforms, including a YouTube channel, Twitter account, Flickr account and alumni Facebook group.

We are at the forefront of social media developments in HE and have developed two of our own social media platforms - Wild West Yorkshire and Develop Me. Both of these platforms are innovative tools to help us support students, improve the student experience and help achieve our recruitment targets.

We use social media to bring to life the University's activities, ambition and character. Video content helps us show what life at the University is like and helps us share the events that take place here.

We also use social media to listen to what people are saying about us - an often ignored, but fantastic, asset of social media.

We respond to potential students asking questions about studying here in forums, blogs and microblogs. We listen to what people think of how we communicate with them so we can constantly strive for improvement in what we do.

We also advise staff on how to use social media themselves to promote their school, project or research area. We have a range of expertise in the department including staff who have worked in the fields of web development, pay per click, web design and online PR.

In this section you can learn more about the social media platforms we operate and read guidance on things to consider when using social media.
