Bradford named top green University in the UK
The University of Bradford has been chosen as the top green university in the UK and 8th in the World in a survey by DesignCurial.
DesignCurial, a site dedicated to design, interiors, art and architecture, surveyed thousands of universities and narrowed it down to the top 10 green universities worldwide. Universities were ranked on green architecture, innovative green technologies and other green initiatives the universities take part in.
The University of Bradford was described as powering ahead with green initiatives, achieving an Outstanding BREEAM rating — the highest ever BREEAM Outstanding rating for a university — for the Bright Building (or the re:centre), and decreasing its carbon footprint by 35% since a decade ago.
The rankings come on the same day as it was announced that the University has been shortlisted in the Love Energy Awards 2015 in the ‘Stars of the Future category’. Winners for this will be announced on July 13.
Clive Wilson, Director of Estates and Facilities at the University, said: “We pride ourselves on our sustainable campus and our commitment to using cutting-edge technology and techniques to enable us to be one of the greenest universities in the world.
“This achievement, along with being shortlisted in the Love Energy Awards, demonstrates how Bradford is leading the way in sustainability.”
