The sunken car park area (behind the IPI building) which is accessed from Longside Lane and the lower part of Richmond Road between the junction with Norcroft Brow and Longside Lane will be permanently closed for parking and through traffic with effect from midnight on Friday, 20 November, 2009. The area will be fenced off and become a Contractor Compound to allow enabling works to take place for the construction of the new Sustainable Student Village which is due to begin in January 2010.
This will effectively cut the campus in half from a vehicle access point of view and will prevent vehicles from entering the University on Longside Lane and using the West End Car Park area as a short cut to get to Richmond Road, Tumbling Hill Street and car park areas on that side of the campus (and vice versa).
With effect from the above date access to Longside, Kirkstone and West End car parking areas will be from Longside Lane entry barriers only and access to the Chesham / Horton, Professorial, IPI, Tumbling Hill Street and Richmond Workshop car park areas will be via Tumbling Hill Street barrier only. Visitors will continue to be given access to the visitors car park from the top of Richmond Road and access to Shearbridge, Unique (Sports Centre) and the Nat West Bank car park areas will continue to be via Great Horton Road.
Please pass this information on to any staff that do not have access to a PC and advise all visitors, delivery companies and contractors to areas under your control of the changes to the status of Richmond Road access.
The new car park areas on Longside Lane are now open for use by all permit holders, access is the same as all other car park areas via staff / student access cards or by using the intercom.
