Leadership and Management Development

The University is offering two in-house management development courses starting Sept 2008. If you are interested in either of these courses, now is the time to find out more and to get your name onto the list.

Both courses will last approximately 18 months, and lead to a postgraduate certificate. Both will be funded through HR Strategy funds and not involve any fees or costs for participants, or their schools / directorates.

One of these courses will be offered by People Development, in conjunction with Insight Consulting, and the other by the School of Management's Executive Education. They are both designed for people in management positions, and for all types of staff. Each course, though, will be organised in a different way, and operate in a slightly different style. The PDF file below gives a description of the Executive Education course. A description of the People Development course follows the table, below (Word doc), which also exemplifies similarities and differences between the two approaches that each course will take.

Talent for Leadership programme

These courses may be taken as part of the Talent for Leadership programme, but are equally available for people who are not on that programme. Participation on one of these PG Cert courses may be a good basis for inclusion on Talent for Leadership at a later date, but neither is a pre-requisite for the other.

Further Information about the People Development course

Our PG Cert is a University of Bradford version of the CMI (Chartered Management Institute) course which we ran a couple of years ago, and which has been well-received by participants. It combines an "inside-out" approach to leadership development with an "outside-in" framework of information and models to enable you to become a more effective player within the complex organisation that is the University of Bradford. The inside-out bit is gained through your experience of a series of team, problem-solving exercises, and insights into yourself and others based on a number of perception inventories, including 360 degree feedback. The organisational perspective is achieved through a number of workshops where you discuss policy and strategy with senior managers, visitors and others with relevant expertise. The work-based independent study gives you the opportunity to pull all this together into a piece of management learning gained through a project in your own area of work.
