Welcome to the Autumn 2009 edition of News & Views

It has been over two years since News & Views had a revamp but recently we decided to relook at News & Views and assess any need for additional news space. From this we have now expanded our news pages and included two pages dedicated to Learning and Teaching work occurring at the University.

In this issue we bring you exciting news about the University planning to merge with Leeds College of Music (page 4) and news about the opening of Unique: Fitness & Lifestyle which took place over the summer (page 5).

The University celebrated graduations of thousands of students over the summer and awarded ten degrees to honorary graduates (pages 8 and 9). During the ceremonies four members of staff were also awarded Baroness Lockwood Awards for Distinguished Teaching (page 10). Dr Martin Brinkworth discusses the key to our beginning, pathology and evolution (pages 12 and 13) and our Person in Profile is Dean of Students, Becka Currant (pages 14 17).

Our new pages for Learning and Teaching (18 and 19) highlight new computeraided assessment being unveiled at the University and the annual learning and teaching conference. Research and Knowledge Transfer news (pages 20 25) includes new research announcements and takes a look at the finalists and winner of the Summer Experience project.

We hope you enjoy this edition, and welcome new and returning students back to campus.
